Despite the recent frost in Thai-Cambodian relations thanks to the former PM Thaksin being appointed economic adviser to the Cambodian government, the borders remain open to trade and travelers between the two countries. Soldiers at the checkpoints have explained to tourists that everything was normal. Locals say that isn't quite the case as the volume of trade has dwindled to a fraction of the usual frenetic flood of goods passing through the border towns, of course that could also have something to do with Monday being National day in Cambodia.
Mr. Thanksin had no comment on the situation from his multi-million condo in Dubai.
