The Cajun Nuclear Option

The Gulf Oil Spill continues to spew oil a month and a half after the Deepwater Horizon platform exploded 40 miles off the coast of Louisiana. BP has failed to cap the mile-deep gusher and the oil is threatening to smear the entire southern coast of the United States. President Obama has heard thousands of ideas to contain the disaster. It was only a matter of time before someone was going to suggest the Doctor Strangelove option or to nuke the leak with a small-yield warhead in this case a Houston energy specialist and a CNN reporter. The latter stated on air, “Drill a hole, drop a nuke in and seal up the well.”

The White House was quick to declare the idea unacceptable, although the old Soviet Union halted several blow-outs with tactical a-bombs, then again the Comintern never cared too much for the environment, but blasting the leak would at best glassify the sea bottom and burn off the oil.

At worst the detonation would poison the sea for millenia and more immediately , and inundate the coastline with a man-made tsunami.

If GW Bush was still president, Dick Cheney would greenlight the nuclear option in a heart beat.

He was a man of action.

Just like Chuck Norris.
