Iowa is in the center of the country. Its popluation of 3 million is ranked 30th in the USA. Des Moines is the 88th largest city in America. Corn rules the flatlands. The farmers sell the grain for oil not food. The state is predominantly white and its population is aging fast, however the Iowa caucases have had an extraordinary influence on the presidential since the 1972 McGovern campaign committed an unprecedented effort to win the state.
In the eight elections since 6 of the winners of the caucases have become president. The latest being Barack Obama.
GOP challengers to the sitting president recognize the value of Iowa caucases and this week several Iowa businessmen dined with Governor Christie in hopes that he enter the race for the White House. The Fat Man from NJ chowed down while listening to their pleas. AS always he offered no committment.
"I'm not ready to be president."
But the Fat Man from NJ is ready for a glass of champagne and a plate of seconds and thirds, which is good for the GOP, who view the recent changes to the nutrition charts as financially unfeasible. Fast food would suffer and there are a lot of fat people in Iowa. I know because I was to Iowa in 2009. There wasn't a vegetable in sight in the small towns other than potato chips at the 7/11s.
Mor-Obs or Morbidly Obese People will vote for the Fat Man from NJ to elect one of their own. It's been a long time since a fat boy has lounged in the Oval Office and the path to that presidential Barca-lounger begins in Iowa.
It's a corn state.
