Buff Naked At Black's Beach
In the summer of 1974 I visited Black's Beach in San Diego, which was the most popular nude beach in the United States. While nudity remains against the law in the city of San Diego, the Torrey Pines State Park has allowed 'clothing optional' for sun-worshippers from the Torrey Pines Gliderport north to the steel buoy south of Flatrock according to Wikipedia.
San Diego even posted a sign stating the following; “Swimsuits Optional Beyond This Point. San Diego Muni.
Conservative city voters had enacted this law in 1977, but people have resisted the ordinance without flaunting their freedom. Back in 1974 the only clothed people were the men in the colorful shorts and black sox taking photos for their collections. The police were cool, but they ticketed the cars after closing.
Enforcement is hard, considering where a naked undercover cop has to hide his badge.
ps I like this painting, but couldn't find the artist.
Sorry.
