A Postcard to Duncan Hannah - Rome - 1984
1984
Nothing open in Rome after dark
No bars, no restaurants,
No nightclub.
Rossa Brigatte on the prowl
Per i ricchi.
The Fascistos hunting
The Red Brigades.
The Revolution stalking capitalism
Around the world
Gina and I stand before the Forum
Ruins of a empire
Richest in the world
Tonight ruins
She speaks no English
I speak no Italian
Only the lingua mondo
French.
Which works for us
Our bodies speak lust.
Rome not an open city.
Not the Forum.
Me and Gina
One blow for the Revolution
We jumped the Forum's Fence
Easy to avoid the guards
In the black of night.
We know why we're here.
Gina lays on broken stone and pulls up her skirt
Latin letters impressed into her flesh…
Ancient dust powders thighs….
A crowd centuries old
Whisper
Distant centuries away
Tonight Gina's breathing louder
Than the ghosts of Rome.
Veni vidi veni.
No one here
But Gina and me.
Eternal Rome
Ad infinitim.
