Olympic torch comes to Patpong

Grim Chinese flame protectors escorted the Olympic flame off a quasi-military aircraft after landing in Don Muang Airport. Some 30 Thai-Chinese supporters greeted its arrival in the early morning darkness of the closed airport. None of them waved Thai flags. A motorcade sped to an unannounced Bangkok Hotel, where it will be guarded by a large Chinese Special Forces unit. The Chinese embassy refused to say whether it was at the Nana Plaza Hotel, although my friend, Alan Platt, claimed to have seen a lot of suspicious-looking Chinese men hanging around that soi.

"Those boys need some fun after what they've been through."

Over 130 Tibetan were arrested in new Delhi, as the Olympic torch once more served as a lightning rod Chinese demonstrations and the Chinese government has called on pro-Tibet activists to cool their ardor. Thai police are taking no chances with the torch, although many Bangkokians were surprised to hear that that 15 klick route had been alter to pass a newly opened Queen's Go-Go in Patpong, where the first farang to ring the bell will get to circumnavigate the bar with the torch.

"One night in Bangkok makes a torch bearer tremble."

The Thai Foreign Minister has denied rumors of deportation for any foreigners caught acting rudely to the flame during its 15 k run through the City of Angels. They will be free to protest as long as they are not involved in any violence.

That should not be too hard since most Thais are wasted after the long Songkran festival.

Still Free Tibet and Northern Ireland too and Staten Island as well.
