Willis Reed, the New York Knicks' geatest player, passed last week. With him at center the Knicks won two won championships. The team has been cursed under the ownership of the amateur guitarist, James Dolan, but Knicls fans old enough had to have shed a teat remembering Reed walking out of the dressing room before the seventh game against the Los Angles Lakers of the 1970 championship. The crowd in Madison Square Garden went crazy, since the hometown center had torn a thigh muscle that had previously kept him out of game six and he was considered unlikely to play in game seven.
Later he said, "I didn't want to look in the mirror twenty years later and say I wished I had tried to play."
A giant.
