PM Samak has announced his resignation on Thursday after his foreign minister tendered his papers early on Wednesday. Emergency rule for Bangkok had no effect on the demonstrations as the police and military opted to sit out this confrontation between the PPP of Thaksin and the PAD anti-government forces.
The foreign press made it sound like this conflict would escalate, however cooler heads prevailed upon Samak to pack his bags.
