His lyrics reanimated the late Pope of MacDougal Street. His songs, his friends, his apartment, the times. Tom Russell sings that Van Ronk's best quotes came while passed out on his sofa. He would force Phil Ochs, Bob Dylan, and Tom Rush.
His cover of BOTH SIDES NOW sounds like thundering of a demi-god.
