TS Eliot penned THE WASTELAND after the Great War.
This five-part poem is considered one of the greatest works of the 20th Century combing the images of the Holy Grail with Sanskirt legends and Buddhists beliefs, while shifting times, speakers, and locales with the wind of short couplets.
The poem opens with the following four lines.
APRIL is the cruellest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain.
And everyone loves this line.
I will show you fear in a handful of dust.
