Seven Wonders of the World

I wrote about the Seven Wonders of the World in February 2007

My list consisted of the Potala in Lhasa, the funereal Ghats of Varanasi, the Brooklyn Bridge, the Sanctuary of Truth in Pattaya, the Chartres Cathedral, the moon-lit combs atop Tikal's pyramids in Guatemala, and Sophie's Bar in Phnom Penh.

Over 45 million people have voted via the internet for a new Magnificent Seven. The Top Ten were the Acropolis in Greece, the ancient Mayan city of Chichen Itza in Mexico, Rome's Coliseum, the Eiffel Tower, China's Great Wall of China, Machu Picchu, Petra in Jordan, the Easter Island heads, Britain's Stonehenge and the Taj Mahal in India.

This project will supposedly finance the rebuilding of Afghanistan's giant Buddha statues at Bamyan. Hopefully no one will tell the Taliban.

I've been to six and my Cousin David considered us to be members of the Easter Island Head Club since our craniums were so large, so maybe I could count seven, although we were disappointed that Sophie's Bar in Phnom Penh had not had not scored heavily in the voting.

Sleaziest bar in the world.

The Viking on Soi 6 is just dirty.
