October 8

October 8 has been the date of many important historical events.

In 1600 San Marino adopted its written constitution.

In 1956 New York Yankees's Don Larsen pitched a perfect game in the World Series.

In 1967 Guerrilla leader Che Guevara and his men are captured in Bolivia.

And in 2001 U.S. President George W. Bush announces the establishment of the Office of Homeland Security.

On Monday America celebrated Columbus Day, even though the Italian explorer landed his Spanish-financed ships on Hispaniola on October 12, 1492.

New York will hold a parade in honor of the Admiral of the Seas.

In 1492 Christopher Columbus was still out to sea on October 8, so today honors his incomplete ocean voyage same as GW Bush declared 'mission accomplished' before the end of combat in Iraq demonstrating the rewriting of history for those who love a parade, then again we could secretly be celebrating Yankee Don Larsen pitching a perfect game in the World Series.

ps the Boston Red Sox finished fourth in 1956.
