Willem Dafoe has played many roles throughout his career. Most famous the sergeant in PLATOON gave him an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor. The film won the Academy Award for Best Movie. Willem was beaten out by Michael Caine in HANNAH AND HIS SISTERS. His most controversial performance aside from acting like he wanted to have sex with Madonna in BODY OF EVIDENCE was portraying Jesus Christ in THE LAST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST. Catholic protesters gathered around cinema, outraged by a messiah without divinity. One theater in France was torched by zealots. One movie-goers was killed in the blaze. Undeterred by this tragedy Willem Dafoe has continued to act in quirky films and no more so than Lars von Trier's ANTICHRIST.

The film drew gasps of disgust at Cannes.
Outrage too.
Derisive laughter from some.
No telling what is funny these days, but I hope the Academy watches this movie carefully, because Willem is due.
