THE IDES OF MARCH

Julius Caesar returned from the Conquest of Gaul loaded with plunder i.e. gold and slaves. He paid off the debt of every Roman, thereby freeing the hoi polloi from the tyranny of the upper classes. The Senators feared the Dictator perpetu's rising popularity and accused Caesar of seeking the title of King.

Caesar rejected their claim, stating, "Non sum Rex, sed Caesar" or "I am not King, I am Caesar."

The conspirators plotted to assassinate Caesar on the Ides of March, the traditional day on which Romans paid their debts. They chose the Senate for the location, since only senators were allowed within its chambers. The haruspex Spurinna had warned Caesar that his life was in danger up to the Ides of March. He ignored the seer and on March 1 Caesar studied Cassius with Brutus at the senate house and said to an aide, "What do you think Cassius is up to? I don't like him, he looks pale."

More guilty than pale.

The fix was in.

On the morning of the Ides, Caesar's wife told her husband about a horrible dream and asked hm to stay home. He agreed, however Decimus, a trusted general, came to his house and said, "What do you say, Caesar? Will someone of your stature pay attention to a woman's dreams and the omens of foolish men?"

Caesar was a fearless warrior and walked to the Senate. Seeing Spurinna, Caesar joked, "Well, the Ides of March have come!"

"Aye, the Ides have come," said Spurinna, "but they are not yet gone."

Mark Antony tried to stop the plot, but arrived at the Senate too late.

Dozens of knives slashed at Caesar. He bled to death. A victim of collective greed.

"Et tu, Brutus."

Sixty-Two Nine Years Later

Today no one in Montauk had mentioned JFK’s bad day in Dallas.

Neither the BBC, New York Times, nor Al-Jazeera wrote a single line about the November 22, 1963 tragedy, proving the old adage that as you get old you forget and as you get older you are forgotten.

Sixty-two years might be a long time for some people, but I can remember exactly what I was wearing, as Sister Mary Honore sobbingly announced over the St. Mary's of the Hills intercom, “The president has been shot dead in Dallas.”

The standard uniform for St. Mary’s of the Hills was a blue tie, white shirt, and navy blue slacks for boys. We were in shock and even more so, when the nuns sent us home early, but people recover fast from tragedy, because on the bus ride home 5th Grade Paul O’Conner said, “Well, I guess that settles what the Kennedys are getting for Christmas. A Jack in the Box.”

The older boys beat him up for his bad taste, because even 8th Graders understood that America had been changed forever and not necessarily for the better. School was cancelled for the rest of that week and I hung my school uniform in the closet till that next Monday.

There was nothing on TV throughout the weekend.

No cartoons.

No movies.

Only the dead president's funeral, although CBS showed NFL football on Sunday. The upstart AFL cancelled their games, which was the turning point for their league.

In the following months the Warren Commission concluded that Lee Harvey had acted alone. Conspiracy theorists have refuted this finding as well as the official Single Bullet Theory, attributing the assassination to the CIA, Castro, the Mafia, Cuban exile groups, and anti-communist Pentagon cliques.

Of course my theory runs counter to the mainstream in that I think RFK arranged his brother’s death for having ordered the murder of Marilyn Monroe by J. Edgar Hoover.

I wrote recently that I had only been in two movies; THE LAST SONG and a foot fetish short, however three years ago my friend Randy Koral came out to Thailand from Paris to film a version of my short story THE TRUTH AND NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH. We changed the setting from Michigan's Upper Peninsula to Thailand and the fat man was on the run to Cambodia instead of the Inuit nation. I played the lead and Nik Rieter starred as the black operative hitman.

My screenplay centered on a long monologue of my JFK assassination theory. The day of this scene I had a 103 fever. Every attempt to complete this three-minute piece ended in failure further proving the wisdom of my never having pursued an acting career.

Nik on the other hand was great.

Cockney accent and bad teeth.

The film was never edited to a rough cut. Randy was soon diagnosed with brain cancer. Two operations in France had him in remission. He was supposedly coming to New York this winter. Maybe we can reshoot the flubbed scenes then.

I miss JFK, especially after seeing the film 13 DAYS, which shows how a real president should act in a crisis.

His last words in Dallas were in in response to Governor Connelly’s saying, “You can’t say the people of Dallas don’t love you.”

“No, I wouldn’t say that.”

Four shots proved them wrong.

A Lone White Male From Hawaii

Yesterday a lone gunman hid behind a fence obscured by vines at a West Palm Beach golf course owned by Donald Trump, who still considers himself the 2020 president-elect. His hiding place was on the fifteh green.

According to the Secret Service, who were protecting Donald Trump playing a morning round of golf, an agent spotted shooter was spotted a rifle muzzle poking theough the bushes. Shots were fired an a white male fled the scene and escaped in an SUV leaving behind a SKS semiautomatic rifle, basically an AK 47 equipped with a sniper scope. 45 minutes later police stopped the vehicle and the man surrendered without any further gunplay. The 58 year old white male was taken into federal custody and arraigned on various charges. No bail was set at this time.

My sister called this morning to ask my take on this incident, knowing my predilection for conspiracies.

"Inside Secret Service job. Trump is facing prison time. if he goes to prison, the Secret Service agents will have setve shifts with him and none if them want that job. Si they are purposely telaxing their vigilance "

"I knew I could count on you for an off the wall explanation. Thanks."

Of course none of explainhed the financing of the shooter's trip from Hawaii to West Palm Beach, but Ryan Routh has reported a monthly income of $3000. Details are still to be constructed to declarify everything, but Vice Presidential candidate Vance said, "But you know, the big difference between conservatives and liberals is that we have — no one has tried to kill Kamala Harris in the last couple of months, and two people now have tried to kill Donald Trump in the last couple of months.”

Mohammad Morsi ارقد في سلام

This morning Egypt's first democratically elected president collapsed after a court appearance to face espionage charges.

The sixty-seven year old man had been tortured and abused and had been refused medical care throughout a six year imprisonment. His family had only been allowed to see him three times. According to AlJazeera the former president's son, Abdullah Mohamed Morsi, told Reuters news agency that the family did not know the location of his body. He added that the authorities had refused to allow Morsi be buried at his family's cemetery.

The military dictator Sisi fears the dead almost as much as the living.

As does the USA and UK.

There was no mention of the former leader's death in CNN or Fox News.

Turkish President called Morsi a martyr.

I agree.

Air Command Mentality

President Obama supported the drone war in his State of the Union Speech. A vast majority of American public back the continuation of GW Bush's air attacks against reputed Islamic militants in Yemen, Afghanistan, and Pakistan to prevent another 9/11, despite the collateral civilian killings and the fact that the White House has condoned the assassination of US citizens in foreign countries. Of course drones are much more accurate than a B52 bombing strike, which is an improvement of the Cold War warrior General Curtis LeMay's attempts to bomb Vietnam into the Stone Age. Still the drone attacks echo the same thinking of the following quote from "Bombs Away" LeMay; Every soldier thinks something of the moral aspects of what he is doing. But all war is immoral and if you let that bother you, you're not a good soldier.

The Dream Is Never Over

After spending a lovely night in Houston, JFK and his wife boarded the presidential jet for a short hop to Dallas. The crowds lining the route applauded the president and his hostess, Mrs. Connolly, commented, Dallas loved him and he replied, "That's very obvious."

The single bullet and then another struck JFK within a second of his reply.

November 22, 1963 was a bad day, however the video shows that he was having a good time in Texas.

The love was real and real now too.

Gaza Versis Goliath

The Old Testament has great plots; Adam and Eve, Moses freeing his people, and the classic David versus Goliath. Israel has touted their relationship to the young shepherd downing the giant throughout the wars against their neighbors without ever mentioning the help of the West. They were never really alone, but few Arab states have openly supported the PLO or Hamas on a military basis in fear of earning the wrath of the Big Dog of the USA. The most recent escalation of violence in the Gaza Strip has resulted in over a hundred dead on both sides, although the Palestinians are taking a beating from their arch-nemesis. Low-tech rockets in one direction and top of the line bombs and missiles in the other. Egypt has offered terms for a ceasefire. Israel demands no hostile fire from Gaza and an end of arms shipments to Hamas, while their fellow falafel eaters demand a cessation to the Gaza blockade and Shin Bet assassinations. While newly re-elected US President Obama attempted to reach a common ground between the combatants, he also green-lighted Israel's right to defend itself. No one wants Israel to lay down in the face of aggression, but neither will the world approve of a bloodletting such as occurred in the last Gaza incursion. PM Netanyahu has called up 75,000 army reservists and Hamas has said 'bring it on'. The IDF has superiority of arms, but as they learned in Lebanon their tanks are only good for one thing, so Israelis are rightfully worried that "Bibi' is leading them into another war without victory only more mayhem. Come on people, demand for a ceasefire. As Winston Churchill said, "It is better to jaw jaw than war war."

Calm Down People

In GIMME SHELTER, the epic 1969 film about the mayhem at Altamont, Grace Slick of the Jefferson Airplane beseeched the unruly crowd and the pool cue-wielding Hells Angels from the stage, "Calm down, people."

There was no calming down that crowd.

Nor do the parties of Israelestine seem interested in peace.

Yesterday the Israeli Defense Forces missiled a car of transporting Ahmed Jabari, the Head of the Hamas Military, who is credited with the 2006 capture of an Israeli soldier in a complex cross-border raid that killed two other soldiers according to Huffington Post. In October 2011, Israel traded 1000 Palestinians for Gilad Schalit ending his five years as a hostage at the hands of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the Popular Resistance Committees (which includes members of Fatah, Islamic Jihad, and Hamas), and a previously unknown group calling itself the Army of Islam as reported by Wikipedia.

Hamas vowed to avenge his assassination and their military wing launched a fusillade of STS missiles into the Occupied Territories, reaping a deadly harvest in Kiryat Malachi, 20 miles from Gaza. The IDF responded with ATS missiles and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu boasted that Hamas had been defanged by the counterattack.

Sirens sounded in Tel Aviv for the first time since the 1991 SCUD crisis during the Iraq I, warning Tel Aviv residents of incoming Hamas' rockets. Three struck the coastal city without causing any casualties. Shin Bet and the IDF are at high alert for a possible land invasion of Gaza to counter their intelligence laps on October 6.

The Independent reported that Paz Azaran, a 17-year-old Ashkelon schoolgirl welcomed the Israeli military operation. “We’re standing behind our army and we are very proud.”

More to come, but people, what about a little calm or is it too late in the season for peace.
