Hellah Swelter

A horrid heatwave has scorched the Eastern Seaboard for the past four days.

New York thermometers have read in the upper 90s.

This evening I descended into the subway.

The temperature rose 10 degrees Fahrenheit on each level.

The train platform had to be in the 100s.

I hurried into the air-conditioned train.

A cool 75.

respite from the madness of Hellah Swelter, however the weatherists have predicted a repeat for tomorrow.

Hot.

But not as hot as LA.

Q: How hot is it in Southern California? A:

So hot every fat guy sweating in the city smells like Bacon!

104 And That's All

JULY 23 2016

Thursday the temperature in New York City hit the high 90s. The humidity soaked my shirt within a few minutes of exposure to the outside weather. I drank three large bottles of Perrier, ate a quarter of a watermelon, and downed about 5 iced beers in a vain attempt to keep up with my projectile sweating. It was almost as if my pores were spitting out fluid. Once home I took about five showers and remained cloistered in my air-conditioned apartment.

I survived the night.

Friday the weathermen were predicting heat in excess of 100. The record for New York City was 105. The hottest temperature for the NY State was recorded in Troy on July 22, 1926. The thermometer hit 108.

By midday the radio was calling Friday the hottest day in recent history.

104.

For me the heat wasn't as bad as the previous day. My friends said my brain was heat-addled. They weren't far from the truth.

The heat wave continued over the weekend, although this evening I'm feeling a slight abatement from the sweltering heat.

I even went out to shoot hoops at the park on DeKalb.

My friends once more accused me of suffering from heat madness, but this recent spike in the temperature is nothing to comparison to the grasp of the heat dome over Oklahoma and Kansas. A month of unrelenting 90+ temperature, but even that streak pales in regards to the longest heat wave in modern history.

5 months of 100+ Marble Bar, Australia during the winter of 1924.

America's worst heat wave occurred in the Dust Bowl of 1936.

101+ for over 100 days in Yuma, Arizona.

Back then hot was hot. There was no AC. Ice melted faster than butter on the red-hot frying pan.

104 was hot for New York City.

People complained so much that their wind blew away the heat.

Hot air versus hot air.

New Yorkers are # 1.

It's certainly not Kansas.

Death Valley Hot

A heat wave smothers the continental USA and the national weathermen are predicting that the temperature in Death Valley might hit 120 today.

The manager of the Wrangler Restaurant in Furnace Creek on Tuesday closed the establishment after the ACs went on the blink, saying, "We can't put customers through this -- it's just too hot."

Hot, but on July 10, 1913 the thermometer hit 134 degree and this reading has stood over a century as the highest recorded on Earth.

GOP Flat Earthers dispute the present heat wave as proof of Global Warming.

"It's summer in the desert."

"They don't call it Death Valley for nothing."

"This is a dry heat."

For me hot is hot and at 130 in the shade it feels like the sun is ironing your skin.

My advice to those Global Climate Change denialists is simple.

Drink liquids, don't move, and stay in the shade, plus pray to your Nailed God.

It's a pleasant temp in New York.

80 this morning

In the 90s in the early afternoon.

My old bones like the heat just fine.

Stormy Weather NYC July 2022

The Northeast has been in the depth of a long drought worsened by a past week of plus-90 temperatures. I had planned to go up North, but the heat was too wicked for an old man and I opted to remain in New York. I haven't left the apartment in days, except to get food.

Yesterday I sat my writing desk and watched the western sky blacken with storm clouds, expecting a monsoon, however the rain only offered a brief reprieve and the thermometer climbed back to the 90s.

Manhattan and the Hudson Valley were blessed with a biblical deluge and Dan Martland luckily caught the storm in all its majesty.

And Now A Heat Wave

The sun rose today and burned off the morning overcast. The temperature swiftly climbed from 80 F to 93 F by midday. I thought about traveling to Rockaway Beach, but I'm still nursing the aches and pains from of a bicycle crash. Tomorrow I need to go to the Diamond District and the weather services are warning that the mercury with a thermometer will hit 98 by the afternoon.

2020 has been tough on the world.

The Covid Virus spread across the world.

The police have killed numerous innocent African Americans without any justice for the victims.

Donald Trump has instigated a race war to bolster his KKK/Nazi/Christian support and threatened to ignore his losing the November presidential election.

Thankfully the AC is defending this tenement from the sweltering heat and I am drinking a glass of ice-chilled Peach Wine.

I thought it was Rose wine.

Opps.

On a scale from 0-10 this tragedy is a .585 and if I'm lucky, then that's as bad as it will get today.

Tomorrow?

Tomorrow is a story yet to be lived as are the final six hours of today.

Sun set.

Sun rise.

98 And That's All

Thursday the temperature in New York City hit the high 90s. The humidity soaked my shirt within a few minutes of exposure to the outside weather. It was almost as if my pores were spitting out fluid. Once home I took about five showers and remained cloistered in my air-conditioned apartment.

I survived the night.

Friday the weathermen were predicting heat nearing 100.

The record for New York City was 105 and the hottest temperature ever recorded for the NY State was in Troy on July 22, 1926, when the thermometer hit 108.

Today the temperature has slacked off and I said that the heat wasn't as bad as the previous day. My friends said my brain was heat-addled. They weren't far from the truth.

The present heat wave will continue throughout the weekend, although Sunday evening is predicted to be the end.

This morning I even went out to shoot hoops at the park on DeKalb.

My friends once more accused me of suffering from heat madness, but this recent spike in the temperature is nothing to comparison to the grasp of the heat dome over Oklahoma and Kansas. 5 Days In Semi-Hell

Last month New Yorkers were happy to not be involved in the Great Midwestern Heat Wave, however this week the Eastern Seaboard had been subjected to fury of 90+ temperatures. Every morning the thermometers start at 75 and then rise toward 100. So far we have been spared the triple-digit torrid torment, yet each day the baked streets, buildings, and sidewalks radiate merciless heat and the hot spell is predicted to last through the weekend. This afternoon I rode my bike past the McCarron Pool. The watery vastness was packed with humanity and I sought relief through drinking two ice green teas, several liters of water, two beers, one cider, and I fully intend on hydrating myself throughout the evening. And I'm dead set on eating a good hunk of watermelon. Tomorrow is day six. I'll be working at the metal shop. There is no air conditioning. Only sweat. And beer thereafter.

Death Valley Hot

A long heat wave covers the West and the weathermen are predicting that the temperature in Death Valley might hit 130 this weekend, approaching its all-time record of 134 degrees set a hundred years ago. This reading is reputed to be the highest recorded on Earth. Flat Earthers dispute the heat wave's proof of Global Warming. "It's summer in the desert." "They don't call it Death Valley for nothing." "This is a dry heat." For me hot is hot and at 134 in the shade it feels like the sun is ironing your skin. Drink liquids, don't move, and stay in the shade. I'm doing that in New York with a lovely can of 'Gansetts. It's New England's beer.

Hottest July Ever USA USA USA

The national weather service reported that July of 2012 was the hottest on record. The relentless heat wave scorched the south and central states with a merciless stretch on triple-digit temperatures, yet three days ago on the floor of the Senate Oklahoma Senator James Inhofe argued that global warming was a hoax. Several of his opponents booed his assessment as denialism. I beg to differ, since my counterpart in religion, the ex-nodel from Paris, has sent a damning email claiming the prime reason for global warming is that many people have lost their faith in God and after dying they are sent to Hell. More sinners to burn, the warmer the planet, plus that people are fatter than before so they burn in Hell hotter. Repent sinners and save the world. Thanks for that insight. I was in Thailand for July. It was hot every day and rainy as to be expected from the monsoon season, but not as hot as Oklahoma.

On His Knees

James Inhofe has long been the GOP's leading critic on global warming. His faith has convinced him that Man is incapable of altering his God's plan for Earth. As late as July 2010 the Oklahoma senator stated, "I don't think that anyone disagrees with the fact that we actually are in a cold period that started about nine years ago. Now, that's not me talking, those are the scientists that say that." People in Oklahoma might disagree with his opinion. Yesterday the temperature in Tulsa was 103. Last year the governor of that Bible Bible state asked the faithful to pray for relief. Cooler weather arrived in the fall, although the prayers to Zombie Jesus also failed to win OU # 1 in football. ps I googled James Inhofe prayer without any success of finding a single image of the senator praying to any God.

Hot Hot Hot

.
America east of the Rockies has been overwhelmed by a border to border heatwave in the triple digits. A massive storm knocked out power for over two million residents in the capitol and surrounding districts. There is no AC. There is no ice. It is hot and the weathermen are predicting more hot. Prominent climate-denier James Inhofe has wisely decided to maintain a vow of silence about the nationwide scorcher. His office has asked emailers the following; If you are an Oklahoma resident experiencing difficulties with a Federal Government agency or needing assistance from my office, please DO NOT email me from this page. This morning the temperature in Tulsa is a sultry 103. James Inhofe offered no phone number to contact him. I suspect that he has left Washington. Even Oklahoma is cooler than DC without AC. While Inhofe shut his jumbos, EXXON's chairman stated in a speech before ouncil on Foreign Relations that the public is 'illiterate' in science and math, plus that society will have to adapt to climate change. “It’s an engineering problem and there will be an engineering solution.” Engineering without power as in Washington was called the Dark Ages. Rex Tillerson Asshole of the Day. And even Oklahomans might agree, unless the temperature drops to 90. Hot but not as hot as a 100.
