Hey Louie Hey

Studio 54 had famous guests such as Liza Minelli, Andy Warhol, Halston, and Michael Jackson, but anyone who was grooving on the scene ignored those fame whores for Larry, who sold ludes 2 for $5. No historians know his name. Louie knew how to keep his sand. "Who wants ludes?" ps fuck the rich. fuck the famous. it's all over in 15 seconds. The ludes lasted a couple of hours.

Revenue Pirates

Two days ago I bicycled over to Chinatown. All the restaurants were closed after the storm, however one store was selling box lunches to the powerless neighborhood. Within minutes health inspectors descended on this violators of the health code and forced customers to give back their food without a refund. Fucking city. It's back to normal.

The Forgotten Borough

Two weeks ago I ferried across the lower harbor to Staten Island. My college friend Nick had invited me to watch the Jets versus the Patriots at his house on Lighthouse Hill. We have a lovely day drinking wine, eating homemade Italian food, and even better the Pats beat the Jets. Nick drove me down to St. George to catch the 9pm ferry. It had been a good day. I just got off the phone with Nick, who's general practitioner of medicine. "We still don't have lights and there's no sign of any help on the way. Worse is that we have no TV or radios, so we don't know what's happening." Nick complained, having spent the greater part of his day giving tetanus vaccines to survivors of the Hurricane Sandy. "I drove down the bungalows on New Dorp and most of them are destroyed along with the million-dollar mansions. There's boats and debris everywhere. And the mayor wants to run the Marathon." I could hear his wife shouting in the background. "Rose is real happy about that." "Fucking Bloomberg." She shouted louder, as if to be heard in City Hall across the harbor. "One guy was guarding the boats with a gun." "Against looters?" "Yeah, they're going through the wrecks for the electronics and the old houses for valuables. There's no cops anywhere." "Except for those getting ready for the Marathon." Rose must have been sitting at his elbow. "If it gets really bad, come stay with me." It was a crazy offer, but these are going to be crazy times. Looking out the window of the Fort Greene Observatory I see the skies getting dark. The weatherpeople are predicting rain for tonight, but tomorrow is supposed to be a sunny day. Don't forget Staten Island and to see the CNN report on that borough, please go to the following URL http://www.cnn.com/2012/11/01/us/sandy-fema/index.html doctor

The Tombs In The Aftermath

Four days after Hurricane Sandy and New York City remains calm. Widespread looting has yet to occur and federal aid has been promised to the stricken neighborhoods of Lower Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Staten Island. National Guard troops have yet to arrive to spell of the overworked police, but the NYPD is always happy for the extra hours. Two days ago I was bicycling in front of the Criminal Court on Centre Street. Two cops hauled a blonde woman and an older white man from their patrol cuff. The couple were in cuffs. I tried to think what crime they might have committed to deserve arrest. Prostitution couldn't have been an issue. Theft. They didn't look like thieves and the police were not carrying any evidence of robbery. Bad luck? It's always bad luck to go to the Tombs. The city getting back to normal? Not yet.

Let There Be Internet

The last two days the internet was cut to the Fort Greene Observatory. Service was restored this evening, but every gas station in the city is without gas. One of my neighbors is trying to drive fourteen miles to New Jersey. His gas meter says that the tank holds eighteen miles of petrol. I wished him luck.

Off To The Observatory

Heading home from the bagel shop to see if Time warner has restored service to the Observatory. Personally I think that their crews took our signal towers to supply the Hamptons. The rich have special needs. Be back with you all later.
