Tangled Wire Theory

Last night I put my headphones on the kitchen table. The leads were attached to my iPad. The power chord was separated from the headphone wires by several inches. I fell asleep to dreams of Thailand. I do miss my family.

The next morning I woke early and went into the kitchen. The iPad is the same position on the table same as the night before, however the wires were in a tangle like they were the last participants in a rattlesnake orgy. No one had entered the room during the night, so I was mystified by this phenomena of tangled wires, although last year I was working with Sean Bauer of PS 122 and as we put away long electrical cords for the theater, he said, "You have to twist the wires every time you wind them or else they spin in the plastic sheaths."

His explanation sounded logical and I searched Google without finding any support to his theory.

One scientist suggested an analogy that our bodies are comprised of billions of cells and even more nucleus only 20µm big, however our signature of DNA has a length of 3 meters if it were laid out in a straight line. Instead it is meshed by a maze of ever-changing knots by the constant motion of our bodies.

This made some sense to me, but tonight I'm videotaping the wires while I'm asleep.

I'm sure the tangles have something to do with elves.

They have a mischievous reputation

SLEEP ANYWHERE

The attribute I most admire in the Thais is their ability to sleep anywhere and I seem to have acquire this gift from my years of living in the Land of Smiles.

I thank Siam for this talent.

Everywhere and anytime.

Patpong Dawn

dawn, patpong, thailand

Patpong at sunrise.

Years ago I went to sleep at dawn. Now I wake up at that hour like a new-born baby. Sleep - the most beautiful experience in life - except drink. - W. C. Fields

No Sleep In Space

NASA conducted the first fly-by of MArs in 1965. The Mariner 4 orbited the Red Planet sending back photos as well as measuring factors of Space for future missions. Communications with the satellite ceased on the winter solstice of 1967, however the US space agency continued to explore the distant planet with unmanned robots. At present five spacecrafts conduct experiments both in space and on the surface of the fourth planet from the Sun. A manned trip planned for 2020 has been pushed back to 2030 by NASA, while MARS ONE, a private space enterprise, announced its intent to land a man on the planet in 2023. Every two years the proximity of Mars and Earth shorten the round-trip journey to 450 days, requiring half the energy of a longer trip. A major challenge to this voyage is the stress on the crew having to live in cramped quarters for over a year and the tedium of never seeming to get anywhere. "The monotony of going to Mars and coming back again is something that will need to be addressed in the future. You don't want your crew hanging around doing nothing," said the man in charge of the mission. The pseudo-astronauts slept even more on the 'return leg' Russian scientists discovered that more than half crew members suffered from insomnia on this trip to nowhere. I know the feeling. After I eat garlic, I can't sleep, but not sleeping for weeks on end in Space would drive people crazy and crazy is never good when you have nowhere to run. Beware of HAL.

The Reefer Standard For The Dollar

Bloomberg News' Josh Barro congratulated GOP Representative Jerrold Nadler's suggestion that President Barack Obama solve our 'alleged' debt crisis by minting a trillion-dollar coin. "I'm being absolutely serious. It sounds silly but it's absolutely legal. And it would normally not be proper to consider such a thing, except when you're faced with blackmail to destroy the country's economy, you have to consider things." Twenty of them would cover the monetary shortcomings into the next century, although there are few people on this planet wealthy enough to buy such a coin. The richest man on the world is Carlos Slim, a Mexican-Lebanese, whose combined wealth from communications, technology, retailing, finance, and drug laundering comes to less than $100 billion. The billionaires of the world barely have $4 trillion. The real money remains in the hands of the banks, who resist the idea of debt relief to safeguard their filthy lucre. Personally I believe in back the dollar on the weed or marijuana standard, for platinum has no value other than what speculators declared it to be worth. Reefer? We all like reefer and we ain't paying any taxes on it either. Fuck the GOP.

Steve, You Suck

Last autumn I sat in the Fort Greene Observatory and thought that the hurricane season had been very kind to the Eastern Seaboard, then in late-October a Category 1 storm traveled up the Gulf Stream to smote New Jersey with a lunar-intensified tidal surge. The coast was devastated by the water and wind. Governors sought relief from Congress and the GOP responded by delaying any funding as a punishment to the Tristate area supporting the re-election of President Obama. This week Rep. Steven Palazzo of Biloxi, Mississippi district voted against a $9.7 billion relief package to victims of Hurricane Sandy. Palazzo's office did not immediately respond to TPM's requests for comment. Update: A spokeswoman for Palazzo provided TPM with a statement Friday in which she said the congressman hopes the debate over aid to victims of Hurricane Sandy will prompt a "national discussion on disaster relief reform." Read the statement here. I tried to contact his office via email to call him an asshole. http://palazzo.house.gov/ I enter the zip code 39535 for Biloxi. I emailed that he was an asshole. I have yet to receive a response. ps he does have John Edwards hair. Is that a good thing?
