Handwriting History

Historians have attributed the authorship of the Declaration of Independence to Thomas Jefferson, despite the Second Continental Congress having appointed Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Roger Sherman, and Robert Livingston to aid in the writing of this document. Jefferson wrote the first draft from June 11 to June 28, after which John Adams and Benjamin Franklin revised the text. A third draft was inked after submission to the Congress before the Declaration was sent out for printing.

They wrote with quills and inks. The handwriting is very legible. No stains or X-ed out edits.

The entire document was written with ink by quills and engrossed on parchment by the scribe, Timothy Matlack .White-out or spellcheck did not exist. His flawless cursor penmanship remains legible even in the modern age of aliteracy. Not that many American ree=ad anything more than mojiiglyphs.

ps there is only one mention of God in the Declaration of Independence, Jefferson used the term "Nature's God." Later, he used "Creator" and lastly "Divine Providence and none in the Constitution.
