Afghan Quagmire

I voted for Barack Obama to end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. US Troops have pulled out the Iraq cities and the president has vowed to end the occupation within the year, much to the chagrin of the Pentagon, who want this war to continue into the next century. More worrying in the recent 'surge' of troops into Afghanistan. Thousands of extra soldiers bent on battling the Taliban and their allies. A major push has been planned for the Helmand Valley.

4000 marines.

Clear and establish outposts like the French in Indochina.

I can't believe anyone thinks that this is a good strategy even though the temperature in over 100F

Already one Marine is dead and basically the battle is to curtail the growth of poppies, the only cash crop in the region. The tactic of these small outpost was only a success in Iraq, because the military was bribing the enemy to piss off.

When will someone in Obama's administration have the courage to say.

WTF.

And let's bring the troops home.

Now.
