Police Dogs on Crack

A recent Yahoo News report extolled the policing talents of two dogs in Thailand, mentioning that the German Shepherd and Labrador serve double functions of guarding the royal family and sniffing out drugs. Jame and Richy are graduates of the Royal Thai Police school for canines. Most dogs wash out with basic commands such as 'sit' and 'wait', however these two dogs have become detectives for the Thai nation.

I like the part about guarding the Royal Family, although I do express a little concern for the drug training, since seeing several dogs trained for narcotics detection in airports. These 'chien policier' exhibited many worrying traits of drug use; weight loss, moodiness, irritability, or nervousness, bizarre behavior like sniffing my crotch in an attempt to score. I realized that an intrinsic part of the training for narcotics was giving the dogs cocaine and heroin, so they are junkies.

Who better at finding drugs than an addict?

Of course I could be wrong, but the look in the Paris airport dogs eyes was too familiar. I had seen that desperate gaze in the mirror too many times at dawn.

Canem, caveat cocaine.
