Phew - Almost Apocalypse

More than any other time in history, mankind faces a crossroads. One path leads to despair and utter hopelessness. The other, to total extinction. Let us pray we have the wisdom to choose correctly.

An asteroid of a similar size to a rock that exploded above Siberia in 1908 with the force of a thousand atomic bombs whizzed close past Earth on Monday, astronomers said on Tuesday.

Earth was spared a catastrophic collision with a meteor estimated to be between 21 and 47 meters or 68 and 152 feet for people in the USA and UK or basically the size of four Burger Kings filled with fat people. This celestial visitor misses the planet by a mere 44,000 miles or the distance you would travel if you rode the Fung Wah bus between New York's Chinatown and Boston's South Station approximately 220 times round trip. The meteor's size was similar to a comet that struck Siberia in 1905 falling more than 80 million trees. It took scientists over 60 years to come up with that figure, proving that if a tree falls in the forest no one hears it no matter how many tress fall at the same time.

Closer was 2004 FU162. That tiny asteroid scooted by Earth by a mere 4000 miles.

Phew, once more into the breach humanity.
