In Our Best Interests
The Democratic convention platform in Charlotte left out any mention of Israel and God. The GOP bible-thumpers attacked the omission of their Almighty Deity and those farther to the right have been outraged without surprise, for as resistance.ning.com states; "For Democrats there is NO God because they believe in the merciless slaughter of America’s innocent, unborn children, the elderly, disabled and sick population as contained in the deadly ObamaCare law. They believe in the destruction of the family as ordained by God — marriage between one woman and one man — so-called same-sex marriage. They believe in enslaving the citizens of America to their communist agenda and if we don’t comply we are called “terrorists,” falsely arrested and detained without due process. They don’t believe in God even if they falsely claim they do, because they don’t do his will. Their ways are not the ways of God. God’s way is not man’s way; God works in His own way. The Democrats don’t seem to understand this. In essence, they are anti-God; anti-Christ; anti-Israel; anti-American."
The bass grumblings of the Fundamentalist base of the GOP thundered across the country and the Democratic leadership caved under the multitude of demands for God's inclusion into the party platform. Last night they added that government should help people "make the most of their God-given potential".
As a devout atheist I was disappointed by their cowardice in principles, especially on the separate issue of declaring that Jerusalem is the de facto capitol of Israel.
This change was decided on a voice vote, but clearly less than two-thirds of the delegates were in favor of saying that, "Jerusalem is and will remain the capital of Israel".
The 'nos' ruled the vote and Antonio Villaraigosa, the Democratic convention chair, asked for the crowd to voice their opinions three times before favoring the ayes.
Boos rang from the floor, for the President has suggested to the Israeli prime minister that the Zionist nation return to its pre-1967 borders to solve the long-standing conflict with the Palestinian people.
The LA mayor was clearly taken aback by the rejection of Jerusalem as Israel's capitol, but he did as told and affirmed the vote and the fact that the USA will stand by its best friend and ally in the Mideast.

Make My Way
Earlier this month Clint Eastwood announced his support for Mitt Romney and the Hollywood icon appeared on stage of the Tampa Convention Center with a chair. The actor/director/producer pretended to speak with an invisible Barack Obama, accusing him of creating 23 million unemployed, even though the US Department of Labor puts the number at 13 million, which is way too many, especially when many of those are underpaid by WalMart and the Pentagon. Clint went on to harangue the chair about Gitmo.
"Well, I know even people in your own party were very disappointed when you didn’t close Gitmo. And I thought, well closing Gitmo -- why close that, we spent so much money on it. But, I thought maybe as an excuse -- what do you mean shut up?"
And then he brought up the tears shed on the night of Obama's election.
"I remember three and a half years ago, when Mr. Obama won the election. And though I was not a big supporter, I was watching that night when he was having that thing and they were talking about hope and change and they were talking about, yes we can, and it was dark outdoors, and it was nice, and people were lighting candles.
They were saying, I just thought, this was great. Everybody is trying, Oprah was crying."
Liberal pundits likened the hemhawing monologue to that of a rant by Homer Simpson's father, but the star of EVERY WHICH WAY BUT LOOSE pleased the audience with his humor and heartfelt anger with our president.
And for one time in the GOP convention someone said bring back the troops from Afghanistan.
"I know you were against the war in Iraq, and that’s okay. But you thought the war in Afghanistan was OK. You know, I mean -- you thought that was something worth doing. We didn’t check with the Russians to see how did it -- they did there for 10 years. I think Mr. Romney asked the only sensible question, you know, he says, “Why are you giving the date out now? Why don’t you just bring them home tomorrow morning?”
I agree that the troops should come home tomorrow, but it's harder to stop the Pentagon from wagign a war than drag me out of a party when there's still booze to be drunk.
Clint, you're still the man on screen, but anyone who says he's a pal of Jon Voight aint' playing with the full deck of marbles.

Bag Of Gas
Two night ago NJ governor Chris Christie to the stage of the GOP convention in Tampa.
"Thank you! Thank you all very much. Thank you. Well, this stage and this moment are very improbable for me, a New Jersey Republican."
According to Fox News the rotund speaker said the word "I" 37 times, "Romney" seven times, and "jobs" one time in his speech
I counted him saying the word 'believe' twenty-four times, saying 'believe me' twice in a row.
Manny my old boss from 47th Street said more than once, "Never trust anyone who says believe me. Especially if they say it so fast."
Manny trusted no one and he's still at his desk on 47th Street.
ps Chritie was speaking to one county in his state.
Monmouth county.
It's the fattest county in New Jersey led by Donna Simpson, who's trying to become the fattest woman in the world.
ps Ms. XXXXXXXL has yet to announce her party allegiance this year.

GOP VP Mystery
Late this August 50,000 GOP supporters will descend on Tampa, Florida to witness the nomination of Mitt Romney as their presidential candidate. The campaign chest is filled with money from financial supporters, the polls have the former Massachusetts governor neck and neck with the President, and the strip clubs are gearing up for their biggest payday of the century, as white conservative men will show America how to party. City police have instituted new rules on protests to prevent any disruption of the festivities and the GOP leadership showed their love of freedom by allowing Ron Paul's libertarian candidates to attend this convention without walls, although ghosts of the past such as Sarah Palin and GW Bush are expected to be MIA to avoid any bad vibes to spoil a convention destined to give their candidate a huge deadcat bounce in the polls.
Only one question remains to be answered by the soon-to-be nominee and that is who will be his running mate. Jeb Bush is a big fan of Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, a staunch conservative to counterbalance the far right's doubts about a Mormon's beliefs in their values.
Romney's silence on his choice has the media speculating on a broad spectrum of other possible running mates such as Wisconsin's Paul Ryan to gain support from the Tea Party, Arizona governor Jan Brewer for the women who don't fuck vote, New Jersey's Chris Christie to win favor with fat people, Indian's Nikki Haley and Bobby Jindal to show that the GOP does have color, but no way does the fat philander Newt Gingrich or the bombastic Donald Trump get the nod.
In the end Romney will pick a running mate whom he can shove into the shadows, because this is all about him and his magic pajamas.
And his lovely smile.
ps I'm betting on Piyush Jindal at 25-1. Once a Hindu, now a Christian.
His nickname is Bobby.
"Every day after school, I'd come home and I'd watch The Brady Bunch. And I identified with Bobby, you know? He was about my age, and 'Bobby' stuck."
Cute story and good thing he didn't pick Marcia Brady as his mentor.
