No Catholics Need Apply
When my parents moved to Maine in 1954, my sainted mother asked the realtor if there was a Church close by.
"You mean Catholic?" The woman regarded my family of six with anti-Papist disdain.
"Yes." My mother wasn't one to back away from martyrdom for her faith, however the realtor said, "That's no problem. We have a Jew living down the street."
While the US Constitution guarantees religious freedom, the adherents of the predominant faith have viewed 'others' as a threat to their God-blessed America and the condemnation of Catholics was aimed at the Irish.
To date one Catholic has been elected President.
JFK.
And they killed him.
Only one Catholic has been elected Vice President.
Joe Biden.
And they haven't assassinated Obama, because they don't want a Catholic as president.
Not one Jew, which is why the Kerry/Lieberman ticket was doomed from the start, and certainly not a single Mormon has come close to sitting in the Oval Office.
So what are the chances of Mormon/Catholic GOP combination taking the White House.
Sorry, but historically white males only vote for their own kind.
Irish need not apply.
